One of the most famous works from the Acropolis, the Relief of the Pensive Athena presents the goddess with her feet bare, and her head bent, leaning on her spear. Her gaze turns towards a low stele, perhaps the boundary marker for a sanctuary or a catalogue of the precious objects kept in it. It may also be that the low stele had the names of those killed in a battle written upon it, an interpretation more consistent with the thoughtful, almost sad expression of the goddess. It is an excellent example of the so-called Severe Period, the style which developed after the Persian Wars of 480 BC. This Museum replica is produced exclusively by the Acropolis Museum Conservation Workshops for the Acropolis Museum Shops. Both the materials used and the conservators' skilled craftsmanship ensure the accuracy and high quality of the copy.
