Poseidon was the god of the sea, rivers and springs, protector of seafarers and horses. He challenged the goddess Athena for the title of protector of the city of Athens but was defeated by her. In this detail from the Parthenon's Block VI of the east frieze, Poseidon observes the arrival of the Procession of the Panathenaia. The Panathenaia were the most significant celebration in honor of the patron goddess Athena. This Museum replica is the proud product of the Acropolis Museum Conservation Workshops. It is produced by the same skilled craftsmen that tend to the original sculptures in the Museum. Combined with the excellent standard of materials and moulds, the copy's accuracy and high quality guarantee a timeless piece.
