The Korai were the most characteristic dedications to the goddess Athena's sanctuary on the Acropolis, the offerings of wealthy Athenians with the financial resources to commission such expensive works. Unlike most other korai that characteristically lift their dresses to the side with one hand, Kore 685 has her hands outstretched. She most likely held offerings in both: a bird in her left hand, perhaps a pigeon, of which only the tail survives. She wears a long chiton with sleeves and a himation, an outer garment over it. Her head is decorated with a diadem, or wreath, with colored motifs, and she wears round earrings and a bracelet, depicted in relief on her left wrist.
