One of the most emblematic sights in the Museum is the display of the Karyatids of the Erechtheion on a balcony overlooking the museum's gallery of the Acropolis slopes. They are the inspiration for an all-time classic of the Museum, the fine silver-plated bookmark with the engraved form of a Karyatid. Embellished with a white tassel, the bookmark is an elegant gift available in a gift box.
Material: silver plated alluminum
Designer: Eleni Lambridi

The Karyatids were the statues of six young women that supported, in place of columns, the roof of the south porch of the Erechtheion. The columns' basket-shaped capitals carried the weight of the porch roof and spread it downwards. In their day, the sculptures were called Kores. The name Karyatids was given later when they were linked with the girls from Karyai in the region of Lakonia in Greece, who would dance in honor of the goddess Artemis, with baskets on their heads.
