Exact replica of the head of Kore Acr. 643 made on a scale 1:1. The Korai were the statues of young women dedicated by wealthy Athenians mainly in sanctuaries of female deities. With her delicate features, this head of a Kore, with its downcast eyes and a restrained smile is one of the most expressive of the Acropolis. Her body, unfortunately, does not survive. Her wavy hair and the wreath that would have crowned it were once richly decorated with metal jewelry, secured on the still visible holes in the marble. Dedicated to the goddess Athena in 510 BC, it was destroyed during the burning of Athens by the Persians in 480 BC. The Museum's Conservation Workshops produce this replica exclusively for the Acropolis Museum shops. Both the materials used and our conservators' skilled craftsmanship ensure the copy's accuracy and high quality.
