Petite and elegant in her vividly colored clothes with their intricate motifs, she is one of the most charming Korai sculptures of the Museum, the statues of young women dedicated to the Goddess Athena on the Acropolis. She is known as The Chios Kore, as it is thought she may be the work of an artist from the island of Chios. Like most Korai, she would have held an offering to the goddess in one hand, perhaps a flower blossom or a bird. In the other, she would lift her dress to the side to facilitate her walking. She wears a wreath or diadem on her head with other metal jewelry, perhaps metal rays, and colored earrings on her ears and a necklace on her throat. The original work was created around 510 BC. This replica is produced by the Acropolis Museum Conservation Workshops' skilled craftspeople exclusively for the Acropolis Museum Shops.
