As part of the three-day marriage rituals, and on the eve of their wedding day, the bridal couple would make various dedications associated with their lives and the marriage ceremony to the sanctuary of Nymphe, the protectress of Marriage and Wedding Ceremonies. The skyphoi were table drinking vessels, usually for wine, and were used by men at symposia. The originals date to the sixth century BC and can be seen in display case 6 of the Museum’s gallery of the Acropolis Slopes.
