Archaeological excavations at the sanctuary of Nymphe, the protectress of Marriage and the Wedding Ceremony on the southern slope of the Acropolis have brought abundant finds of objects associated with the rites of marriage to light. Amongst these were children’s toys, possibly the tributes of young girls, who offered them before their wedding, farewelling their childhood. Τhe originals that date to the sixth century BC can be seen in display case 6 of the Museum's gallery of the Acropolis Slopes.
