The Peplos Kore is considered one of the masterpieces of the Acropolis. She takes her name from one of the garments she wears, the peplos, a heavy woolen robe that folds at its top and is pinned at the shoulders with bronze pins or fibulae. Although only traces of color remain today, she was originally painted in bright colors. Color analysis indicates that the long garment beneath her peplos was blue with a green band at the neck. The peplos was white, with its front vertical strip of small animals, birds and horseback riders set on red squares. On its top section, it was bordered with a heart-shaped design and her belt would have been blue or green. The holes in her ears indicate she would have worn earrings, and bronze attachments suggest she may have had light rays or lotus flowers on her head.
