This rectangular porcelain plate can be used as a small food serving dish, an office accessory, or a decorative item. The ancient text of an early 5th century Athenian proclamation from a marble stele inspires the elegant black on white text, transforming a functional object into a beautiful piece. Supplied with the Samos Inscription branded box and a brief exhibit history, it can also be purchased with one of the other porcelain goods in the Samos Inscription range.

One of the indications of the transparency and success of the democratic institutions in ancient Athens was the carving of the most significant decisions that were voted upon by the Ekklesia of the Demos - the Assembly of the Citizens and their public disclosure. Today the decrees serve as a significant source of historical evidence, reflecting both the internal and foreign policy that Athens exercised in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. In this particular inscription, Athens grants privileges to its ally Samos, which remained loyal to her after Athens’ defeat in the war with Sparta in 405 BC.
