The skyphoi were drinking vessels, mainly for wine, usually used by men at symposiums. The miniature skyphoi were popular dedications at the sanctuaries of gods. This miniature was dedicated to the sanctuary of Nymphe on the southern slope of the Acropolis in the late sixth to early fifth century BC. It was decorated with diluted clay that took on its black color when the vessel was baked in a ceramic oven. It dates to the end of the sixth century to the early fifth century BC and can be seen in display case 6 of the Museum’s gallery of the Acropolis Slopes.
