The scene on the round lid of the Acropolis Museum lekanis depicts the young god of wine and theater, Dionysus, standing before a vine with grapes. With one hand he tugs a small, winged cupid or Eros while a second cupid approaches playing the lyre. Around him nine Maenads, followers of Dionysus, fill their glasses with wine, play the clappers and the guitar and beat a drum, while dancing ecstatically. The scene is completed with the wild dance of a Satyr, while three Erotes dance amongst the figures.
