Athena was the goddess that safeguarded the city which took her name and the Acropolis was the official site for her worship. There she would receive all types of offerings, such as this drinking goblet or skyphos, of which the fragment was a part. Here Athena wears her characteristic snake-edged breastplate. On her head, she wears a wreath or diadem, earrings on her ears and on her hand, a snake-shaped bracelet.
