The Athenians inscribed the Assembly of the Citizens' most important decisions on stone slabs and erected them in public spaces such as the Acropolis for public disclosure. The most powerful political body in classical Athens was the Ekklesia of the Demos, that is, the assembly of men with the title of Athenian citizen. Its key responsibility was to vote for the probouleuma, the Boule or Athenian Council, recommendations which dealt with all the state's activities. The Boule compromised 500 elected members with a one-year term, 50 from each of the ten tribes to which the Athenians belonged.
